Cause why not! And never in any specific order!
Top films:
Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein
Ne Zha 2
Life With Chuck
K-Pop Demon Hunters
Cause duh...
Top Books (which may or may not have been published this year, I am super bad at paying attention to that, however these are books I read for the FIRST time this year):
Thrice Married to A Salted Fish by Bi Ka Bi (Chinese Danmei)
Human Acts by Han Kang (translated from Korean, about the Gwangju Uprising)
Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle (just read it, it's great, idk how to describe it)
The Pairing by Casey McQuiston (soft, touching, moving, maybe gave me a bit of a crisis)
All the Beauty in the World: The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Me by Patrick Bringley (moving, introspective, thought provoking, just... human)
Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle (the things I would do to be the one to adapt this for a mini series sobs)
KP, aren't most of these queer?
Yes. Yes they are.
Top Music - Mix of Albums and Songs:
Stop the Rain by Tablo x RM: https://youtu.be/ZXAcTToLy_Y
(Did this one also give me a bit of a crisis? Maybe, maybe it did.)
THE ENTIRE ALBUM OF MAGIC MAN 2 FROM JACKSON WANG: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m_SdguNnAK1sW52sd_xnZx3-LQddbzXZQ
(Note: While he does have BUCK before GBAD in the playlist and all the album, he released the MV's in reverse order, and quite frankly I think they hit harder that way. But that's just a personal preference, you do you.)
(Note note: Unfortunately, like many stars and celebs across East and Southeast Asian countries, Jackson does on occasion utilize AI, As far as I am aware, he only did for an overhead shot in GBAD, and potentially the sky and the train, everything else was done practically.)
(Note note note: This is quite literally the only time you will see me recommend anything which utilizes that atrocity, and should I ever get the chance to ever have a discussion with him, I have words.)
Express Mode from Super Junior: https://youtu.be/pykdDgWX7-M
(Great song, fantastic lyrics, fucking INCREDIBLE dance. Highly recommend the rest of the album as well.)
Do It from Stray Kids: https://youtu.be/NED7nev2ywQ
(Literally if you know me for more than five minutes you will realize I have a thing for songs and messages like this. Also kickass dance. Also Felix. And Bang Chan.)
Top Dramas:
Blood River starring Gong Jun (formerly known as Tale of Dark River, still the superior name imo. Great graphics, Gong Jun's acting has LEVELED UP so much, engaging for over 95% of the drama, INCREDIBLE FIGHT SEQUENCES, highly recommend)
Shine starring Mile Phakphum Romsaithong and Apo Nattawin Wattanagitiphat. ( I just... DAMN. DAMN! Absolutely incredible story, every single character is so well developed, it is heart wrenching, it is heart warming, they did such an amazing job with it.)
(I am almost positive those are the only drama's I watched this year 😅 Are they both queer? Yes. Yes they are.)
And shout out to some fav communicators for various aspects of science and history:
Oceanliner Designs for maritime history, primarily Titanic focused, but loads of others as well: https://www.youtube.com/@OceanlinerDesigns
Flint Dibble for archeology: https://www.youtube.com/@FlintDibble
Milo Rossi also for archeology and a lot of googledebunking: https://www.youtube.com/@miniminuteman773
Lindsay Nikole for animals, human history, and paleantology: https://www.youtube.com/@LindsayNikole
Tori Phantom's Founded Podcast about the stories and realities and truths they did not teach us (US people) about the American Revolution (They were so petty, and so snarky, and quite frankly, we have lost a lot of sass as a country. One of my favorite tidbits, in Boston they made and paraded around and effigy of Liberty and then declared her dead, about a decade before the revolution actually began. Drama queens, all of them.): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLO6whwAWsPi4dNuNm5Y2Ul3wsMvSlmrHr
