void - a poem

does greed and anger and insecurity and hatred pierce so deep?

void - a poem
Picture of a black man standing on a bridge painted a tan color. His hair is a dark brown, cut close to his head, beard down his jaw and around his mouth, also kept close to the skin. He is wearing a grey v-neck shirt and blue jeans. He holds with both hands, the right hand is wearing a ring, a poster with the words ONE WORLD in black, blocky, all caps, and a marker drawing of the planet in between them. void

that the land

the seas

the air

the caves

can be gazed upon and only seen

as numbers and money and

profit profit profit

is truly an unfathomable concept

to the heart and soul

how is that all that is seen?

does greed and anger and insecurity and hatred pierce so deep?

when there’s so much awe

so much beauty

so much gorgeous mystery

to be experienced and seen

what if

hear me out

what if

every variation of a deity

was created to fill the endless loss

(and this hardly an original thought)

a piercing, aching loss

at being alone

feeling abandoned

by every other hominid

to look around one day and realize

oh

it’s just us

how lonely

how cold

how big a void that yearns for comfort

how terrifying

how unsettling

does destruction truly ease that?
