when uncle sam appears - poem
A painting of Uncle Sam, a representation of the United States, pointing to the viewer. He wears a white top hat with a blue band with stars, a blue jacket white shirt, and red bow tie. He also has a white beard. This representation dates from 1916, painted by James Montgomery Flagg as a military recruitment poster.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Uncle Sam is at the door,

hand extended for collaboration.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

He wants peace, just let him in!

Just meet him at the table.

Hear him out, be polite.

Nothing can go wrong.

A proposal,

nothing more!

What could be the harm?

THUD THUD THUD THUD

What’s wrong?

Why are you making him wait?

This is so rude, how dare you?

Where are your manners?

Do you know what happens to those

who stand in attempt to defy him?

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Drones? What drones?

Oh those?

Those will keep everyone safe.

Scanning faces,

Hunting terrorists,

Nevermind the racist bias.

After all, a few lives have to be sacrificed,

To maintain the social order.

CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH

The soldiers?

Don’t mind them,

They’re just here to keep

The Peace.

Some help to track and

Detain the violent criminals

Running rampant in the cities.

PAPPAP PAPPAPPAP PAPPAP PAP

Self-defense, don’t you know,

Against the threatening dictator

But don’t you worry,

Good Ol’ Uncle Sam has this well in hand.

A new leader he approves of,

Unwavering support!

Military to keep the threats at bay.

All he asks for in return, all he wanted from the start?

Your oil,

Your minerals,

Your land,

And all the power in his hands.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

What a tragedy!

Such a shame!

How could such things be let to pass?

If you had simply given in,

None of this would have happened.

So much senseless violence, tsk.

A shame, truly, may God bless.

Thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers.

Our hearts go out to yours.

A pity, truly, the blood you have now on your hands.

So think long and hard when Uncle Sam appears.
